The purpose of this document is to provide you with instructions on how to create a rubric for a Moodle assignment.
Negative points can be entered and used to assign penalties or deductions. If negative points are entered, ensure the Calculate grade based on the rubric having a minimum score of 0 option is enabled to avoid miscalculation of grades.
Creating an Assignment Rubric
- From the course homepage, select the assignment you wish to create a rubric for.
- Select the gear icon.
- Click Advanced grading in the drop-down menu.
- Select Rubric in the drop-down menu.
- Click Define new grading form from scratch.
- At the top, give your rubric a name.
- Optionally, write a description for your rubric in the Description text box. You may want to do this if you plan to create several rubrics.
- In the Rubric section, begin to fill in the rubric. Remember that you cannot use point ranges; only exact points can be entered. Here is an example of a completed rubric:
- Under Rubric Options, in the drop-down menu, select whether you want your rubric to be displayed Ascending By Number of Points or Descending By Number of Points.
- IMPORTANT: Click Save rubric and make it ready. (If you choose Save as draft, the rubric will not be ready to be used for grading.)
