Forums: Subscribing and Unsubscribing

Subscribing to a forum is a great way to stay connected with class discussions. Once subscribed, you will receive an email to notify you of a new post or reply made by another classmate or the instructor. If you wish to receive no email updates, unsubscribing will be explained as well.

Subscribing and Unsubscribing

If the instructor has enabled the ability for users to subscribe to a forum, you can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time, with the exception of the forums that the instructor has set to force everyone to subscribe (for example, the News Forum).

Subscribing To or Unsubscribing From a Single Forum

  1. Access the forum to which you’d like to subscribe or unsubscribe.
  2. Locate your Administration block; the options under Forum Administration will indicate the subscription status (in this example, it is Optional Subscription) and a hyperlink to allow you to subscribe or unsubscribe to this particular forum (in this example, the student is subscribed, and therefore offered the option to unsubscribe).
  3. Click the hyperlink to toggle subscription.

Subscribing To or Unsubscribing From All Forums

A block labeled Activities will appear on the side of your course. If you do not see it, your instructor has not enabled this block. Please disregard this process if this is the case.

  1. Click Forums within the Activities The refreshed page will list all of the forums in the course, as well as your subscription status to each of them.
  2. There are two hyperlinks in the top right-hand corner:
    1. Subscribe To All Forums: Click this link to subscribe to all forums within the course.
    2. Unsubscribe To All Forums: Click this link to unsubscribe from all forums in the course.

Please note that you will not be able to unsubscribe from any forums which your instructor has programmed forced subscription.

  1. The Subscribed column on this page indicates your subscription status to each forum. You may also use these buttons to change your subscription status on each forum individually. Again, please note that you will not be able to toggle your status if the instructor has forced subscription.
