Aggregate Types
Forums have six different aggregate types. The aggregate type defines how ratings are combined to form the final grade in the gradebook.
- Average of Ratings*: The mean of all ratings is figured. At least two ratings must be submitted in order for a grade to submit to the grade book.
- Sum of Ratings*: All ratings are added together. The total will not exceed the maximum grade for the activity.
- Count of Ratings: The number of ratings becomes the final grade. The total will not exceed the maximum grade for the activity.
- Maximum Rating: The highest rating becomes the final grade.
- Minimum Rating: The lowest rating becomes the final grade.
- No Ratings: The activity is not gradable and will not appear in the grade book
Selecting a Forum Aggregate Type
- Access the Edit Settings page of the forum for which you’d like to set up an aggregate type. You can do this one of two ways:
- Click the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of your main course page and then click Turn Editing On. This will cause a drop-down menu to appear to the right of the activities and resources; click Edit and then Edit Settings on the drop-down menu to access the forum settings.
- Access the forum you’d like to program and click Edit Settings in the Administration
- Scroll down to the Ratings section and choose the Aggregate Type from the drop down menu (refer to the list above for definitions of each type, if needed).
- Click either Save… option at the bottom of the page when finished.
