Instructors have the option to importing grades into the gradebook by pasting from a spreadsheet. This is helpful if you have grades you have compiled outside of Moodle.

To Import from a Spreadsheet:

  1. Create a simple spreadsheet with a column for student identifier (such as user name or e-mail address) and columns for activities. The activity names do not need to match exactly what is in your gradebook.
  2. Access the Grader Report by locating the Navigation Drawer on the left side and selecting Grades.
    1. Note: If you do not see the Navigation Drawer, click the button with three horizontal bars in the top left to toggle it on.

  3. Select the Import tab from the top row of tabs on the Grader Report.
  4. Select the Paste From Spreadsheet tab from the second row of tabs.
  5. Copy and paste the contents of your spreadsheet into the Data box.

  6. Click Upload Grades.
  7. Ensure the data under the Import Preview table looks correct on the preview page.
  8. Select the correct user and grade item mappings by using the drop-down boxes under the Identify User By and Grade Item Mappings
    1. As an example, say a spreadsheet had columns titled “username” and “Assignment 1”. In Moodle, “username” will be mapped to Username, and “Assignment 1” will need to be mapped to the exact title as it appears in the course. In this case, Lesson 1 Reading Assignment.
    2. Note: The user field (“username,” for example) will also appear under Grade Item Mappings. Leave this field as Ignore, because the user is not a grade field.
  1. Click Upload Grades.
